ATLAS 1/137,035999

Arter
24.06.2026 — 03.01.2027

Arter presents Tayfun Erdoğmuş’s first institutional solo exhibition in Türkiye, titled Atlas 1/137.035999. The exhibition brings together a wide selection of works from different periods of the artist’s practice spanning more than four decades – many of which are previously unexhibited – alongside newly produced works. Generated through the layering of vegetal, and mineral materials, Erdoğmuş’s papers and canvases are presented within spatial arrangements designed using moving images, and industrial materials. Curated by Eda Berkmen, Atlas 1/137.035999 is on view at Arter’s second-floor gallery from 24 June onwards.

Tayfun Erdoğmuş’s first institutional solo exhibition in Türkiye, Atlas 1/137.035999, invites viewers to reflect on the structure of matter and the universe, the relational patterns that constitute life, and humanity’s efforts to perceive, interpret, and shape existence at both atomic and cosmic scales. The exhibition also offers an opportunity to trace the visual and conceptual layers that have shaped Erdoğmuş’s practice, situated at the intersection of traditional arts, decorative arts, and fine arts.
Plants, minerals, handmade papers, chemical and acrylic solutions constitute the material vocabulary of Tayfun Erdoğmuş. With diligence he gathers, accumulates, assorts, dissects, arranges, layers and preserves them. He invents original techniques and surfaces through lengthy processes rooted in experimentation. By facilitating the interactions, transformations and chance events through which matter takes on different states, he opens up a geography of his own, one that expands the established limits of painting.

The title of the exhibition, Atlas 1/137.035999, can be read as a coordinate assigned to this geography. It evokes the name of a newly discovered star or molecule, a speculative probe or a cypher still waiting to be solved, while also describing the mode of thought that shapes the exhibition. What comes into view is an open-ended practice of mapping, one that brings different times, layers of memory, scales and ways of knowing into contact. Each plant trace can simultaneously conjure a personal memory, a cellular formation, a geographical surface, a fossil remnant or a cosmic image.
