TAYFUN ERDOĞMUŞ

Galeri Nev İstanbul
13.02.2004 — 06.03.2004

Galeri Nev is hosting the latest series by Prof. Tayfun Erdoğmuş, a faculty member at Marmara University’s Faculty of Fine Arts.

Opening on Friday, February 13, the exhibition presents a body of work in which the artist “conceals” materials such as dried leaves, dried flowers, maps, and tomography scans beneath transparent and semi-transparent layers of paint — with the precision of an archaeologist. Erdoğmuş, who often uses handmade paper in his works, paints and embellishes the surface of the canvas using both paint and collage papers, guided by the forms his materials naturally create.
Born in 1958, Tayfun Erdoğmuş graduated from the Painting Department of the State School of Applied Fine Arts in 1979. In 1980 and again in 1991, he attended the Salzburg Summer Academy with a scholarship from the Austrian Government. Between 1986 and 1989, he continued his work in Berlin with a DAAD scholarship. He was awarded the title of Professor at Marmara University in 1997. Erdoğmuş held his first solo exhibition in 1979, and his works have since been exhibited not only in Turkey but also in Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom, Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia, and Italy.

This solo exhibition, where Erdoğmuş visualizes the journey between our traditional imagery and contemporary pictorial concerns, will remain open at Galeri Nev until March 6, 2004.
